The essential purpose of Christian Aid is to expose the scandal of poverty, helping in practical ways to root it out from the world, and challenging and changing the systems which favour the rich and powerful over the poor and marginalised.
Working in Africa, Latin America and the Caribbean, the Middle East and Asia, Christian Aid supports local organisations as we believe they are best placed to understand local needs. We work wherever the need is greatest, irrespective of religion.

Bolivia - Feeding the Survivors

Bolivia is a country of massive inequality. The wealth remains in the hands of a few, while millions live in difficult conditions struggling to survive. Having lost four of his thirteen children, what Leandro wants more than anything is to keep the rest of his children healthy. 80% of his family's diet is potato. They can't afford to buy vegetables and can't produce enough potatoes to last them all year round.

"Here, the children don't have the nutrition they need. We eat only potatoes and chuño (freeze dried potato), barley and wheat. Sometimes we don't even have food. We don't even eat fruit. Very rarely, when we can afford it, we buy vegetables."

Leandro has to work in a local artisan mine to supplement their income. It is very dangerous. Leandro said: "We didn't know how to build greenhouses. We need the greenhouses. We will be able to trade with people for other goods - potatoes and grain and rice."

You can help achieve so much by leaving a legacy to Christian Aid in your Will

The income Christian Aid receives from the generous people who leave a gift in their Will would currently pay for not only the two projects described here, but all of Christian Aid's work in Latin America and the Caribbean, a region of massive inequality.

Christian Aid works with 152 local organisations in 11 of the poorest countries here. This money supports diverse work from training people in Jamaica in work skills that will transform their ability to earn a living, helping people fight multinational companies to ensure children in the future do not have to suffer unnecessarily, to responding to emergencies like hurricanes and floods in Central America and the Caribbean.

Using our work in Latin America and the Caribbean as an example, it is clear that without legacy income Christian Aid would have to drop working with 152 partners around the world!

Please consider leaving a gift to Christian Aid in your Will. Your gift will change lives for good around the World.
